MAIA MERAV HOLTZMAN is a designer of jewelry, accessories, and objets whose fascination with jewelry and accessories began in early childhood, inspired by the many friends of her parents who were designers and tastemakers, AND BY HER GRANDMOTHER RUBY, WHOSE passion for GEMSTONES AND JEWELry was a touchstone.

after GRADUATIng FROM the jewelry design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC, where she had the fortune to study under such brilliant mentors as Samuel Bizer and Anthony Lent, Maia was engaged in the service and repairs department at Bulgari’s Fifth Avenue flagship, where she WAS ABLE to examine the inner workings of some of the world’s finest pieces of jewelry. “It gave me an understanding of how to approach the process of design from inside out,” she says “and taught me one of the concepts most central to my philosophy: a design is only as good as the parts that are unseen.”

Maia WENT ON TO COMPLETE degrees at Columbia University and at Tulane University School of Law, and In 2007 she returned to New York City (and to design) with additional perspective: to CREATE in her desired scale she would have to adapt her fine jewelry EXPERIENCE, retaining the expectation of quality in craftsmanship while branching out into the use of new forms and materials.

in 2009 Maia began to build one-of-a-kind works for a small but loyal clientele. RECENTLY she has been conceptualizing ways in which to make her work more accessible without sacrificing her vision, culminating in the creation of a ready to wear COLLECTION THAT WILL be expanded seasonally.

“THE DETAILS ARE NOT THE DETAILS. THEY MAKE THE DESIGN.”
